This course is designed to provide first responders with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and assess the potential hazards associated with containers and vessels during emergency response situations. Containers and vessels—such as tanks, railcars, shipping containers, and maritime vessels—are commonly used to store or transport hazardous materials, chemicals, and dangerous goods. Understanding how to identify these containers and assess the risks associated with them is critical for ensuring responder safety and effective incident management.
Participants will learn how to recognize the various types of containers and vessels, interpret labeling and placarding systems, and identify key features that indicate the presence of hazardous materials. The course will cover the fundamentals of container/vessel construction, storage protocols, and emergency response tactics for handling hazardous materials in these settings. Through real-world examples, case studies, and hands-on exercises, participants will develop the skills necessary to make informed decisions when encountering these containers during emergency situations.
